Siem Reap - Battambang - Phnom Penh - Sihanoukville

We did some serious traveling in the last two days and thus got to see a lot of the country and people. We left Siem Reap two days ago early in the morning by boat heading to Battambang. It was a six or seven hour boat trip though the beautiful river-countryside of Cambodia and we saw floating villages with people living entirely on the water. It was sad to see so many small kids working on fishing boats and yet a joy when they cheered up and waved their hands as we passed by.

After arriving in Battambang, we walked around the small town with some old French colonial style houses and got a ticket for a night bus to Phnom Penh. Actually we had wanted to go to Sihanoukville directly, but due to the Cambodian Water Festival all busses were used to go to Phnom Penh and we had to find a way to get to Sihanoukville from there.

After arriving in Phnom Penh we had some breakfast and caught the next bus leaving for Sihanoukville at 8 AM. There we are now having an amazingly quiet bungalow directly at the sea even though the tourist party beach – which we try to avoid – is just a few hundred meters away. Tomorrow we'll leave all that behind and head for the small island Koh Rung.

Common Cambodian transport.

And as we traveled in an air conditioned bus.. many Cambodians didn't.
